Isn’t the new fountain breath taking?
Recently SMU confessions has blown up the Facebook world. These “confession” pages have been popping up in college campuses around the country. All “confessions” are anonymous, and collected through survey monkey. But is anything on social media really anonymous? What if it was revealed who confessed the “secrets”? Be careful what you post, because nothing on social media is ever 100% private.
This semester, in my Education 204 class, we have the opportunity to teach elementary students through the Junior Achievement program. I have been assigned to a third grade class at Lacey Elementary. Today, I went in for my observation and wow was I blown away at what the students were learning. Third graders were being taught the difference between parallel and intersecting lines. I was shocked. I remember learning these mathematical concepts in middle school. It is good that kids are learning these concepts earlier. It will be interesting to see how these advancements in education will impact the future!
In my Ed 205 class: Child and Adolescent Development, we are currently using smart boards. Smart boards are the newest piece of technology that elementary schools around the country are using. Its incredible how you can write words, and have it instantly transformed into times new roman. I personally believe that smart boards are the way of the future, and will allow students to be more successful.
This weekend, I had the opportunity to travel to Moscow, Idaho for the Idaho Collegiate track meet. Although the bus ride was rather long, it was far worth it. The indoor facility at the University of Idaho was absolutely amazing! It was one of those tracks that one only dreams of competing at! I did not do as well as I hoped, but have a solid start to my season. Go Saints!
Winter break is the best time of year (besides summer of course). What other time do you get to spend time with your loved ones? And the best part about Christmas? BAKING. I have recently taken up an affinity for baking (I blame Pinterest).
I hope everyone has a fantastic winter break :)
Next week is the one week that everyone dreads. The week that separates students from finals and the long awaited WINTER BREAK. Dead week. Dead week is defined by urban dictionary as “the week before finals are administered and most major projects and assignments are due for submission. The late night working and hardcore studying for finals gives the students a zombie like atmosphere, and causes an eerie silence and many blank, unseeing expressions.” I think that this is a pretty accurate description of dead week. Except for the caffeine part. Red bull coffee, five hour energy shots, anything to stay awake. Good luck to all my fellow saints as they prepare for this final week. Remember winter break is less than two weeks away :D
Thanksgiving is always a time of reflection for me. This year I am very thankful for Saint Martins University. Saint Martins has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. The strong sense of community, benedictine values, and the relationships I have built with my fellow peers, professors, and staff are truly remarkable. I strongly believe that education is one of the most valuable tools one can posses, and I know Saint Martins is preparing my peers and me for life. Honestly I cant imagine myself at any other school. I am very grateful.
